As we look out from the Sky Tower in Auckland, taking one last look at this Land of Long White Cloud, we are reminded that we have come to the end of our NZ leg. We have been away from Singapore for 7 weeks, the longest time we were away. There is a little bit of travel weariness but otherwise, we are now even more ready to embrace the rest of the destinations.
Looking back, it has been a really enriching time for the family. There are some unforgettable attractions which the children will remember for a long time. A lot of times, we would visit free attractions like the Nature Reserves, Botanic Gardens and beaches.

We tried our best to minimize tourist traps partly because we are on a budget and overall the cost of living has risen since we last visited it in 2000 and 2007. With two young children, we cannot participate in many adrenaline types of activities but instead find open spaces most suitable. Kaylee and Talia are now super observant for any playground in the area we stay
and will persuade us to take them there.

Now, we really have the time to be involved in the development of the two girls. There is no more excuse of work or other social commitment. They are still quarrel every day and we have to answer many questions from them as they see different cultures and practices at work. There are many opportunities for us to share with the children and teach them to appreciate the richness and diversity of other cultures. From these conversations, we help them to understand and appreciate what we have in Singapore but also show them that things can be seen from other points of view.
Thus, we are looking forward to the next destination. Not many of us have been to Fiji. My own understanding is limited to their National Rugby Team and maybe Noni Fruit. It’s going to be a short stay for 1 week and we have decided to enjoy a little luxury by staying 3 nights at the Sofitel Fiji Resort where the children can enjoy the pool and other facilities. We do not have any plans and will most likely spend most of the time on the beach and pool.
P/S: the girls spotted a bird nest on the tree. They spotted 2 bird nests throughout the walk.
